Girl Scout Workshop

Earn Your Musician Badge!

Girl Scout Songwriting & Music Workshop

Earn your Junior Musician Badge at Magnolia Music School!

Scouts step inside a real music school to explore how music is created — from sound and mood to writing and performing a song of their own. Led by Magnolia’s founder, musician and educator Kat White, this 90-minute experience is joyful, creative, and badge-ready.
This workshop covers all five steps of the Junior Musician Badge.

🌸 What Scouts Will Do

Step 1 — Explore How Music Is Made

Scouts discover how music communicates feeling and emotion. They explore different instruments and the moods they create, then experiment with rhythm and melody to see how sound becomes a song.

Step 2 — Travel Around the World of Music

Learn about music from different cultures and time periods. Scouts explore genres like classical, jazz, rock, and pop to understand their origins and characteristics.

Step 3 — Check Out the Music in Your Life

We discuss different careers in music and what musicians actually do. Scouts also reflect on the music they enjoy in daily life.

Step 4 — Make Your Own Music

Using a simple melody provided by Kat, Scouts work together to write a unique troop song about friendship, adventure, and teamwork. They’ll also sing some classic Girl Scout songs around the “campfire” (not real, but still magical!).

Step 5 — Perform Your Music

The workshop wraps up with Scouts performing their new troop song. Every troop leaves with:

A lyric/chord PDF, an audio recording, and a video recording of their performance
