Policies

Each semester includes two dedicated makeup weeks at the end of the term. These weeks are reserved for any excused absences or teacher cancellations that occurred earlier in the semester.
Whenever possible, makeups take place at your regular lesson time to keep scheduling smooth for everyone. Families do not need to arrange makeups throughout the semester—these reserved weeks create a predictable rhythm and help us wrap up with clarity and consistency.
If no makeup is needed, students simply enjoy the extra break before the next session begins.

Attendance & Makeups
Excused absences (more than 24 hours’ notice) are eligible for a makeup credit.
Unexcused absences (less than 24 hours’ notice or a no-show) are not eligible for a makeup unless due to illness or family emergency.
Up to two lessons may be rescheduled per term.
Makeup credits are used during the dedicated makeup weeks at the end of the semester whenever possible.
Students/parents are responsible for keeping track of makeup credits and scheduling them with Kat (via email.)
If Magnolia Music School ever needs to cancel a lesson, a makeup will always be offered.
Health & Illness Policy
To help protect our staff and fellow students, please keep your child home if they are showing signs of illness such as fever, vomiting, or any contagious condition. We’re happy to provide a makeup or online option when appropriate for students who need to stay home. Thank you for helping keep our community healthy and thriving!Refund Policy for Private Lessons
Private lesson tuition is billed for the full semester. Once the term begins, tuition is non-refundable, as each timeslot is reserved for that student.
Families who withdraw before the first lesson may receive a full refund, minus any registration or processing fees.
In special circumstances (illness, family emergency, relocation), Magnolia may offer a prorated credit toward a future term. -
Shared lessons blend individual coaching with the energy of learning alongside peers. Because the weekly flow depends on the group being present, policies differ from individual lessons.
Attendance & Makeups
Lessons continue as scheduled even if one student is absent.
Makeups are not offered for individual absences, as the teacher continues working with the remaining students.
If Magnolia ever needs to cancel a lesson, a makeup or credit will be provided during the dedicated makeup weeks at the end of the term.
Semester Commitment
Shared lessons require a full-semester commitment.
The semester commitment begins at registration. Once a shared lesson spot is confirmed and tuition is paid, the time is reserved for the full term, and we are not able to withdraw or replace students outside of our emergency exceptions. If a Withdrawal Becomes Necessary
In rare situations (such as illness, family emergency, or relocation), Magnolia may make accommodations at our discretion. Tuition is otherwise non-refundable once the term begins.General Notes
Tuition is calculated based on the total number of scheduled lessons for the semester.
Consistency helps support steady progress for all students.
Magnolia will always communicate promptly if teacher cancellations or schedule adjustments become necessary.
-
Attendance & Makeups
Because group programs involve shared activities and team progress, missed sessions cannot be made up or refunded. Materials (lyrics, recordings, etc.) may be shared to help students stay on track.
If a class is ever canceled by the teacher, a rescheduled session or bonus class will be offered when possible.Refund Policy for Group Programs
For choir: families may attend the first one or two rehearsals and request a full refund if it isn’t the right fit.
For small-group classes (Guitar, Ukulele, Mixed Jam, Songwriting): families may attend the first class and, if they decide not to continue, receive a 50% refund for the remaining weeks.
After the second class has occurred, all tuition is non-refundable, as your child’s spot is reserved for the full session.

To help keep things organized, all scheduling and administrative questions should go through Kat. This allows our teachers to stay focused on teaching and ensures consistent communication.
You can always reach Kat at kat@magnoliamusicschool.com with any questions about lessons, scheduling, or billing. -
At Magnolia Music School, we create music together—and that means showing up for each other with care, focus, and respect. We want every student to feel supported and able to grow.
We know that being silly and having fun are part of being a kid, but during class time, our main goal is to learn and make music together. When a student is consistently disruptive, it can affect the experience for everyone.
To help keep things positive and productive, we ask all students to follow these expectations:
Stay Engaged: Please give your full attention during warm-ups, group work, and activities.
Be Kind: Treat classmates, teachers, and assistants with respect and encouragement.
Participate Fully: Try your best, take creative risks, and be open to learning something new.
If a student is repeatedly disruptive after reminders and redirection, Magnolia Music School reserves the right to withdraw them from the class/choir for the remainder of the session. We know kids are always growing, and we’d be happy to welcome them back when they’re ready to participate more fully.
If a student is asked to leave for behavioral reasons, we will provide a prorated refund for the remaining classes.

For guitar and ukulele students, short fingernails on the “fretting” (left for most) hand are essential — it’s impossible to press the strings correctly or make clear notes with long nails.
Please make sure your child’s left-hand nails are trimmed before each lesson or class. (strumming-hand nails can be a little longer if desired.) This may seem like a small detail, but it makes a huge difference in comfort, sound quality, and progress!
